About the Artist

After a long career in the health industry in 2011 I decided to explore my interest in more creative areas. I started with interior design but quickly decided my long term passion for visual arts was where I wanted to study. While studying I was able to experiment with many different media and discovered my love for colour and printmaking. I enjoy working from my home based studio and it allows me freedom to explore my artwork.

Inspiration

There is a rich tradition of women and printmaking in Australia and I am influenced by 20th century artists including Margaret Preston and contemporary printmakers. I am inspired by native Australian plants for my still life designs and incorporating my interest in interior design I use traditional European embroidery fabric designs that have been handed down to me from my Estonian grandmother. I love using the symbolism in my work that reflects my dual cultural heritage and keeps alive the traditional works.

Art Tutoring

My relief linocut prints are hand printed on BFK Rives 100% cotton paper using a registration board similar to the traditional Japanese method. This allows me a lot of flexibility in the multi-plate method I use. In some prints I can use up to 4-5 different colour plates to achieve the one edition - each colour is printed in succession. I also experiment with many types of printing methods including collagraph and woodblock .My prints are all handprinted without the use of a press.

Its very rewarding for me as an art tutor when students are able to explore and develop their own artistic style .I have a strong emphasis on drawing as a foundation for learning all art techniques and my experience in tutoring includes watercolour, oil and acrylic painting.
